UNTIL SHILOH COMES
By Doug Krieger
Part 1 of 2
The scepter shall not
depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes;
and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Gen. 49:10
This article is in
response to one of our readers concerning the Second Coming of Christ. Many,
like Caleb, are troubled by the many voices predicting the timing of His Coming
and the preparation of God's people regarding the immediacy of His Coming Again
in Glory. Hopefully, this response will give some hope in His Coming Again in
Glory to all who have called upon the Name of the Lord during these troublesome
times in which we live.
Dear Caleb:
First of all your name
signifies the Tribe of Judah from whence "the Scepter shall not depart
from Judah . . . until Shiloh comes" - read on and you
will know why Judah and Shiloh are intrinsically connected. You appear
sincere but somewhat all over the map on inquiry - let's concentrate the focus
of my reply to the Second Coming of Christ - UNTIL SHILOH COMES.
The Importance of Knowing the Day and Hour of His Coming!
First of all, in the
last days there will be those who scoff at the Second Coming as in "Where
is the promise of His Coming" (2 Peter 3:4) - these are they who, as
in the "days of Noah - so shall it be in the the days of the coming of
the Son of Man" (Matt. 24:37-39) - yes, those, not that His
coming again is unknown to them but they could care less about His Second
Coming juxtaposed to this statement:
I would likewise
commend to you the following verse:
"But know this,
that if the master of the house had known in
what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched,
and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore be
ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you don't expect
him." [Matt. 24:43]
That is, the prophets
of the Hebrew Scriptures earnestly sought - in that the Spirit of Christ was in
them so testifying - when would our Passover, the Lamb of God who takes away
the sin of the world, be slain ("sufferings of Christ') AND they likewise
earnestly sought TO DETERMINE THE TIME of the "glories to
follow." What are these "glories to follow?"
10 Concerning this
salvation, the prophets who foretold the grace to come to you searched and
investigated carefully, 11 trying to determine the time and setting to
which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the
sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that
they were not serving themselves, but you, when they foretold the things now
announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from
heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.…[1 Pet. 1:10-12 - Berean Study Bible]
I affirm "unto
Him be glory in the Ekklesia" (Eph. 3:21) is
certainly one of them and the Son received the glory He had
with the Father before the world began in His "glorified body" (John
17:4-5) - possessing that glory but accorded that glory in a HUMAN GLORIFIED
BODY - now, today, there is a HEAVENLY MAN in the glory and in a glorified
human form! [Ref. 1 Cor. 15:49] - indeed, "He is the firstborn among
many brethren" [Rom. 8:29] wherein we are destined to be glorified as
He is today!
Now, this should put
an end to all who criticize them who earnestly seek the glory of the Son of Man
coming in His glory:
“Men of Galilee,
why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was
taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go
into heaven" [Acts 1:11] . . "When the Son of Man comes
in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His
glorious throne." [Matt. 24:31]
Therefore, and now
that the glorified Son of Man knows all things in that:
"For in Christ
all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" [Col. 2:9] and
"in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge" [Col. 2:3] . . .
. . . that to suggest
the Son who possesses all the fullness of Deity (i.e., the godhead) and Who NOW
possesses all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, somehow does NOT know when
He shall come again in glory - is, in a word PREPOSTEROUS! He
most definitely knows when He shall return in glory to reign over the earth!
Now, allow me to
conjecture a bit concerning the coming of the Son of Man to His
inheritance--"for the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof"
[Psalm 24:1-3] . . . He shall claim His inheritance and shall
extricate the interloper (Satan) from what is rightfully His when the
7-fold sealed book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is opened to reveal the
True Owner of the earth!
In order to calculate
or come near the precise "day and hour" as some say we shall never
know; however, we can certainly know the "times and the seasons" of
the coming of the Son of Man [1 Thess. 5:1] - but do NOT excuse this ambiguity
to mean there is no precise time frame embedded therein. No, no,
no! The word translated "times" denotes time
absolutely without regard to circumstances; and the word rendered "seasons"
denotes a definite point of time; not merely the day but the hour [Mark 13:32]
(Ref. here @ 1 Thess. 5:1).
That said - and I do
not have sufficient time to explain all of this--please secure my
text: Signs in the Heaven and on the
Earth, man's days are numbered and he is measured. This will help
immensely.
King Hezekiah and 712 BC - The "Countdown" Begins
& Ezekiel
Now, there are several
precise prophesies to know the time when man's days, which are numbered, are
concluded. What I am sharing here are my personal perceptions which I
believe are derived from Scripture, however, I am the first to admit that my
"calculations" could be inaccurate insofar as the precision of these
dates--that does not inhibit me from offering these insights--hopefully, to the
glory of God. That said, feel free to quote me but know this: The graveyard of
prophetic pundits grows by each day--however, even a clock is absolute in time
at least twice daily (e.g., 12 Noon, 12 Midnight). Again, there are hills worth
fighting over--this is NOT one of them--we can agree or disagree but we are
still within the Kingdom of His Beloved Son wherein our unity is in Christ and
not in "set times."
Notwithstanding,
suffice it to say, virtually all Rabbinical and early Christian scholars of
repute have concluded that "man's days" are 6,000 years (rotations of
the earth around the sun - be that rotation 360-days prior to King Hezekiah's
life extension of 15 years or thereafter of some 365.2425+ days - in that
"man" was created on the sixth day and "one day is as a thousand
years" - Psa. 90:4 and 2 Peter 3:8).
To the best of our
calculations, King Hezekiah's extension was cir. 712 BCE when the armies of the
Assyrians under King Sennacherib were annihilated [2 Kings 19-20]. It was
at this time, as well, that the final "era" of Israelite deportations
ceased (Note: "Israel" refers both to Judah's 2 Tribes +
the Levites of the Southern Tribes and "Israel" refers to the 10
Northern Tribes who also have the name of EPHRAIM, Jezreel, and Samaria).
Please closely examine the "Reign of the Kings of Israel and Judah"
in Lambert Dolphin's outstanding recordation of their reigns at Lambert's
Library. From Lambert's outstanding chronological calculations
the 712 BCE date is fixed pretty much in solid stone. (Note: The fall of the Israelite Northern Capital of Samaria
occurred in 722 BCE by all reliable accounts.)
The prophecy,
therefore, given to Ezekiel in Ezekiel 4:1-8 bears great significance to the
judgment of BOTH the House of Israel (Ephraim) - 390 days; and the House of Judah
- 40 days. The prophecy is as follows:
1 Thou also, son of
man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and portray upon it the
city, even Jerusalem: 2 And lay siege against it, and build a fort against it,
and cast a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set battering
rams against it round about. 3 Moreover take thou unto thee an iron pan, and
set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city: and set thy face against
it, and it shall be besieged, and thou shalt lay siege against it. This shall
be a sign to the house of Israel. 4 Lie thou also upon thy left side,
and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of
the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. 5 For I
have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the
days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of
the house of Israel. 6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right
side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days:
I have appointed thee each day for a year. 7 Therefore thou shalt set
thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and
thou shalt prophesy against it. 8 And, behold, I will lay bands upon thee, and
thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another, till thou hast ended the
days of thy siege. (Ezk. 4:1-8)
Thus: We cannot
grasp these "days" as "years" in their fullness unless we
come to terms that when the Almighty would judge His elect He would
compound/multiply their judgment by "7" - i.e., 7 times whatever the
judgment's time frame is - see Leviticus 26 where the "7 times" is
mentioned 4 separate times.
Thus: Israel's
10 Northern tribes (Ephraim) 7 X 390 years = 2,730 years and the peculiar
judgment of Judah is judged 7 X 40 years = 280 years and together their
judgments are 2,730 + 280 = 3,010 years. However, the sum of these
number sets (2,730 and 280 = 3,010) is NOT in their significance (per se) -
although 3,010 in "prophetic days of 360 days per prophetic year"
tally to 1083600 or 1,083,600 but by elimination of "zero" we see
both "18" and "36" wherein "18" is the cardinal
number of the Holy City, New Jerusalem (Ezk. 48:35 - 18,000 cubits - its
"earthly expression") + Rev. 21:15-16 wherein 12,000 furlongs X
660 ft. (1 furlong = 660 ft.) = 7,920,000 ft. ÷ 5,280 ft. (1 mile) = 1,500
miles X 12 edges of a cube = 18,000 linear miles or "18" - therefore,
18 (of Ezekiel's Holy City) + 18 (of the heavenly New Jerusalem) =
"36" or the "18" of Ezekiel + the "18" of
the New Jerusalem witnesses to the combined "36" of both the earthly
and heavenly expressions of the Holy City, New Jerusalem and to the 360° in a
circle representative of the Eternal God without beginning or ending.
Moreover, as "factors" these days can be multiplied as follows:
1 X 8 X 3 X 6 = 144 which "144" is all over the New Jerusalem and is
the 144-cubit wall of the New Jerusalem with the 12,000 X 12,000 furlong
measurements of each side or 12 X 12 = 144 (dropping the zero--See Rev.
21:16-17).
The 430 Years from Promise to Passover
But what IS of major
consequence regarding the 390 + 40 = 430 is the 430 in
that Exodus 12:40 states:
"Now the sojourn
of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and
thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of the four
hundred and thirty years--on that very same day--it came to pass that all
the armies of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt."
This "430"
is directly connected to Galatians 3:16-17:
"Now to Abraham
and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, 'And to seeds,' as
of many, but as of one, 'And to your Seed,' who is Christ. And this I
say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot
annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should
make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it
is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise" [Gal. 3:16-18].
This
"promise" of the inheritance was given to Abraham via faith - And
to your Seed - which is Christ with a CAPITAL "S" - but what
was portrayed in Abraham's immediate seed was his "son of
promise"--that is, ISAAC:
"Now we,
brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise" [Gal. 4:28].
Therefore, the PROMISE
was domiciled in Isaac (who never departed from the Good Land for he is an
archetype of Christ, our Good Land) and conveyed through the Messianic line
unto the Messiah Himself, even the "Seed" but the understanding is
that from PROMISE to the PASSOVER was some 430 years. That PROMISE was
substantiated through Isaac and REAFFIRMED in Genesis 26 - to wit:
"Then the LORD
appears to him [Isaac] and
said: 'Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell
you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you
and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which
I swore to Abraham your father. And I will make your descendants multiply
as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in
your SEED all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed
My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws." (Gen.
26:2-5)
Isaac was 40 years of
age when he was married to Rebecca (Gen. 25:20) and was 60 years of age when
Jacob and Esau were born (Gen. 25:26) but he was 52 years of age when he was
assured the promise found in Gen. 26:2-5; thus, 12 years after he married
Rebecca he was given the PROMISE (he would have seed) and 8 years thereafter
received his two sons (8 = new beginning and 12 = divine government).
However, Isaac, in the line of the patriarchs (i.e., from Adam to Isaac) is #21
in that line and, consequently, some 2,100 years passed between the creation of
Adam (which creation of Adam we calculate was in 3975 BC) unto some 2,100 years
to Isaac at age 52 [or in the year 1875 BC] when he received the promise from
the Almighty (using the Masoretic text only); thus, from 1875 - 430 years
(period of Promise to Passover) we come to the year 1445 BC.
[Could I insert
that Adam's creation date of 3975 BC taken as "factors" calculate as
follows: 3 * 9 * 7 * 5 = 945 whereupon the Earth is some 94,500,000 miles (or
"945") from her sun. We know that He is the Sun of Righteousness
Who on the day whereof we contemplate shall appear with "healing in his
wing" - Malachi 4:2.]
This "21"
(i.e., of the 21 patriarchal generations and the 2,100 years from Adam's
Creation to Isaac at year 52) is most significant in that it conveys the measurement
in feet of the Hebrew Sacred Cubit of 2.1 feet or 25.20 inches (as per 360
degrees in a day or rotation of the earth X 7 days = 2,520 degrees or
252). The Hebrew Royal Cubit is akin to the Assyrian and Persian ROYAL
cubits and can be ascertained by Ezekiel 40:5 wherein 6 ROYAL Cubits is the
length of the Rod/Reed given to Ezekiel and likewise to John in the Revelation
or 6 X 2.1 ft. = 12.6 feet or 1,260 days or 42 months or 3 1/2 days or 3 1/2
years or time, times and half a time which 12.6 feet is the express time frame
of 1,260 days or 42 months of our Lord's ministry upon the earth and of the
very Testimony of Jesus which shall be lived out by His holy ones/elect during
the final week of Daniel's prophecy yet future.
All this said - we
must acknowledge that this "430 years" of promise is from Genesis 26
unto the Passover and depicts the Seed, which is Christ (Gal. 3) - and, in
particular His PASSOVER; therefore, the judgments upon the 10 Northern and 2
Southern Tribes is OVERSHADOWED by the BLOOD OF THE LAMB of God who takes away
the sin of the world. Even in His judgment of the 12 tribes there is the
express image of His Passover, His mercy whereby His intention was to include
all in disobedience that He might have mercy on us all until ALL ISRAEL is
delivered because of Messiah's perfect sacrifice; our Paschal Lamb (Romans 11:25-32).
[Again, may I insert
that the 2,100 years X 360 prophetic days in a year = 756,000 days. This
"756" constitute both the 30 cubit circumference of King Solomon's Mystical
Sea of Caste Bronze [2 Chron. 4:2] and the linear edges of the Great Pyramid of
Giza @ 756 feet X 4 = 3,024 perimeter feet - which "3024" is a
fractal resemblance of the Wall of the New Jerusalem @ 144 Cubits X 2.1
Ft. = 302.4 Ft. or 3024. Therefore, is the Great Pyramid of Giza built by
the sons of Shem? Also: 756 Ft. ÷ 2.1 feet of the Hebrew Sacred Cubit =
360 HSC X 4 base edges of the GPG = 1,440 HSC or "144" which equates
to the New Jerusalem's measurements. This begs the question: Is the
GPG that "Altar unto the Lord at the border (or
"Giza") of Egypt" (Isa. 19:19-20)?]
The Start & Finish of the 2,730 Years of Ephraim's Judgment
Now, we acknowledge
that the 2,730 years of Ephraim/Israel's judgment commences, I affirm, at the
"time change" in 712 BC of King Hezekiah of Judah's life extension
and extends itself unto 2018 AD (some 2,730 years) and that the 280 years of
Judah's judgment interestingly enough extends beyond the Breach of Jeroboam's
separation from Judah in 992 BC into the reign of King David. It is
noteworthy that most evangelical commentators affirm
that the original Passover date in Egypt was in the year 1444-1445 BC and that
according to 1 Kings 6:1 the laying of the Solomonic Temple's foundation took
place in the 4th year of King Solomon's reign - this date constitutes 480 years
from the original Passover according to 1 Kings 6:1; therefore, if the first
Passover took place in 1444-1445 BC less 480 years = 965 BC (4th year of King
Solomon's reign) - less 36 years (for King Solomon's reign was for 40 years) =
929 BC - commencing the division of the 12 Tribes of Israel into Judah and
Ephraim at the "Breach of Jeroboam" due to Solomon's idolatry.
If we calculate 929 BC
to be the starting point for the 280 years of Judah's "judgment"
until 712 BC (King Hezekiah's confrontation with the armies of Assyria and his
life extension) we will find that 929 - 280 = 649 BC and would NOT suffice the
280 years (because it does not "land" at 712 BC) - no, we must go
back further to calculate the commencement of the 280 years of Judah's alleged
"judgment." That is: 712 BC + 280 years = 992
BC. Therefore, King Solomon's 4th year was in 965 BC and David's reign
ended in 969 (+ 4 years) + 40 years (David's reign) = 1009 BC (the
year King David commenced his reign). We can see from this that 280 years
extended unto 992 BC or if we take David's commencement of his reign to be in
the year 1009 BC less 992 BC = 17/18 years (David's reign was from 1009 BC
until 969 BC or 40 years + 6 months). In other words the 280 years of
Judah's judgment begins in the 18th year of King David's reign or cir. 992 BC
(again, David reigned from 1009 BC until 969 BC).
Through a multiplicity
of calculations it MAY have been in the 18th year of King David's reign (i.e.,
in the year 992 BC) that the establishment of the Tabernacle of David was set
up in Jerusalem where it would have remained some 21/22 years - again, we might
be able to see the "21" of the Hebrew Sacred Cubit. Most
certainly, Judah, under King David, was a United Kingdom of all 12 tribes with
the establishment of the Tabernacle of David in the City of David (Jerusalem)
taking place, most likely, in 992 BC - 280 years = 712 BC (King Hezekiah's time
change and Ephraim's commencement of the 2,730 years).
In other words:
"Judah
is a young lion—my son, you return from the prey. Like a lion he crouches and
lies down; like a lioness, who dares to rouse him? The scepter will not
depart from Judah, nor the staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes and
the allegiance of the nations is his" (Gen. 49:9-10).
Shiloh is a Hebrew
name, primarily for a girl, which has an ambiguous meaning; however, it may be
interpreted as "tranquil" or "peace" as in
"peaceful" or "the sent One" or "Messiah" - it
was the location in the Tribe of Ephraim where Joshua, the son of Nun,
positioned the Tabernacle, which was in the Wilderness, and relocated it to
Ephraim; therefore, Joshua (aka, "Jesus") was positioned in Ephraim,
in Shiloh wherein the Ark of the Covenant did abide for a number of centuries
until it was captured by the Philistines and thence found its way into the
threshing floor of Obed-Edom (the Edomite) and thence to the City of
David/Jerusalem.
It is, therefore, of
supreme interest to me, that we find these verses when Jesus came to the City
of Ephraim--i.e., UNTIL SHILOH COMES: Please go to Part 2 of 2 of this two-part series.
